Severe thunderstorms swept across Northeast Ohio overnight and into the morning, leaving behind flooded roadways, downed trees, damaged structures, and thousands of power outages. Utility crews are working across multiple counties to restore service as additional pockets of rain continue to move through the region.
Thousands of FirstEnergy customers woke up without electricity after storms pushed through early Friday, though outage numbers have been steadily declining throughout the day. As of late morning, more than 1,000 customers remained without power, with over 400 outages in Cuyahoga County alone.
The storms brought heavy rain, frequent lightning, and damaging wind gusts, conditions that meteorologists say were capable of knocking down trees and powerlines. Some areas across the broader Northeast saw gusts approaching 70.
